STORYTELLING AT ALICE HART CHARTER SCHOOL

BYO visited the Alice M. Hart Charter School in the fall of 2014 to lead a two-day storytelling workshop with a group of 6th graders . We talked about the art of the narrative, the differences between the written and spoken word, and how to develop your own voice. We listened to a few BYO stories as a group and talked about them- was it a good story? why? What IS a good story? And then we turned the mic on the students, who all told live stories in front of their classmates.

Listen to their stories here. Special thanks to Ms. Behrmann and all the staff at Alice Hart!

BYO JOINS FORCES WITH TURN THE PAGE

In February, 2015, the New Orleans library celebrated the one-year anniversary of the Turn The Page Campaign. BYO was part of this celebration held at the library’s main branch, along with Irvin Mayfield, Leah Chase, Brandon ‘2-Cent’ Odums (of Exhibit:BE fame), and others that were there to promote reading to an audience of elementary school students. Sophie Lucido Johnson repped BYO and told this story to the kid crowd about her own love affair with libraries.
